Surveys Resources

The Data & Analytics survey team has extensive experience with survey design, administration, analysis, and reporting. Survey resources are provided below, and campus colleagues are encouraged to reach out if they have further questions.

How Data & Analytics can help

Data & Analytics at CU Boulder provides survey research support to various campus departments and programs, with the goal of assisting in data collection and analysis to inform decision-making. Our team conducts several key cyclical surveys, such as the Alumni Survey, Student Social Climate Survey, Senior Survey, Graduate Survey, and the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). In addition, we offer consultation and support for custom surveys initiated by academic and administrative units.

Survey Services We Offer:

  • Our team can assist with the following aspects of survey development and implementation:
    • Questionnaire Design: Helping to craft surveys that are clear, unbiased, and aligned with your research objectives.
    • Sampling: Advising on how to select an appropriate and representative sample of participants.
    • Survey Administration: Offering guidance on distributing surveys to your target audience and managing responses.
    • Data Collection and Compilation: Ensuring the accurate organization and consolidation of survey data.
    • Statistical Analysis: Providing statistical support to analyze data and derive meaningful insights.
    • Reporting: Delivering clear and actionable reports based on survey findings, often with data visualizations for clarity.

Important Note: Data & Analytics provides support and consultation for surveys, and we aim to assist in the process while ensuring that the rights and responsibilities of the departments conducting the surveys are maintained. If you are part of an academic or administrative unit and need assistance with survey projects, please reach out to our team.

  • Financial Incentives: If your department or program chooses to offer financial incentives (e.g., cash prizes) to encourage participation, please note that your unit will be responsible for covering the costs of these incentives. Data & Analytics is unable to fund such incentives for custom surveys.
  • Eligibility: Please be aware that Data & Analytics only partners with academic departments and recognized campus organizations (such as student government or other administrative offices). We do not accept individual survey requests from students.

Qualtrics

CU Boulder provides a campus-wide license for Qualtrics, a robust survey administration and design tool available to all CU Boulder faculty, staff, and students. Access to Qualtrics is managed through the Office of Information Technology (OIT), which provides guidance on how to create and use an account. Users can log in using their CU IdentiKey username and password to create a personal Qualtrics account, which also enables collaboration with other CU users.

  • Qualtrics offers comprehensive, free training through its XM Basecamp platform. This includes both on-demand and live training sessions on survey design and utilizing the tool's features effectively.
  • Training topics cover everything from creating survey projects to advanced functionalities of the platform. For further information, you can refer to OIT's resources or visit the Qualtrics support portal.

Other surveying resources
