Faculty Computer Purchase Program
- The Faculty Computer Purchase Program (FCPP) assists faculty in obtaining current computing technology to support their academic endeavors.
- Qualifying faculty are eligible for an FCPP subsidy of $1,200 for a new computer every fourth year.
- Eligible faculty (and department liaisons) for the new fiscal year are notified by email in July.
- Faculty order their computer through their department's ordering process, then request reimbursement from FCPP.
- The reimbursement request deadline is May 31 of each year.
Secure Computing standards
Secure Computing standards specify the minimum requirements for all university-owned computers and servers. CU Boulder has adopted these standards to enhance the integrity and security of university data and the shared information technology environment. When you procure a new Dell or Apple computer, you don't have to worry about whether it meets secure computing standards—all models bought through CU Marketplace and FCPP comply with CU Boulder's Secure Computing standard. Learn more about Secure Computing for CU Boulder.
Cost
CU Boulder faculty are eligible for an FCPP subsidy of $1,200 for a new computer every fourth year. Departments are responsible for the difference in cost if the computer exceeds $1,200.
Who can get FCPP funds
Eligible CU Boulder faculty members will be notified via email in July of the current fiscal year. If you are unsure whether you are eligible, please email fcpp@colorado.edu.
To be eligible, a faculty member must meet the following criteria:
- Be on a multi-year contract funded with continuing budget (general fund).
- Have one of the following job classifications: Tenured and tenure-track faculty, teaching professor series, and clinical professor series.
- Note that this excludes research professors.
- Faculty are first eligible when entering the fourth year of the appointment that is funded with continuing budget (general fund).
If you have not received an eligibility notice and meet all the previously stated requirements, please contact fcpp@colorado.edu. Faculty can also work with their department's FCPP liaison for any schedule changes.
If you are a Lecturer or your funding does not qualify you for FCPP, see the Lecturer Computer Program below.
How to use the FCPP reimbursement process
Lecturer Computer Program
To ensure that instructional faculty have secure computers supporting their academic work and student success, during the 2025–26 academic year, OIT will provide one-time funding for the purchase of a laptop. With this funding, eligible instructional faculty can choose a standard-performance Dell or Apple laptop that meets CU Boulder's Secure Computing Standard and ensures compatibility with the campus’s tech-enabled classrooms.
Who Can Get A Lecturer Computer
Instructional faculty without current eligibility for FCPP funds who hold an active appointment. This includes FCPP eligible faculty who have not met their first four-year requirement.
After the appointment ends, the faculty member must return the computer to their department for potential reallocation and use by future appointees.
What computer can I get?
Those eligible for the Lecturer Computer program can choose one of the following computers:
- macOS: MacBook Air 13 2024 with M4 10-Core Processor, 16GB Ram, 512GB SSD
- Windows: Dell Pro 14 with Ultra 7 Processor, 32GB Ram, 512GB SSDTouch Screen
